-|**Inhalt**: Erstmalige Erwähnung bei W. Harvey in seinen 'Exercitationes de generatione animalum'. Über Maupertius, "der von einer ordneneden Kraft ausgeht, die im Gemenge des weiblichen und männlichen Samens tätig sei, die richtige Zusammensetzung leite und im Wachstum erhalte" geht die Entwicklung des Begriffes über Tuberville Needham, der die Existenz von 'germes préexistents' leugnet und damit zum Vordenker der Epigenesistheorie wird, zu Caspar F. Wolff, dem eigentlichen Begründer der Theorie. Er setzt den Epigenesis-Begriff an die Stelle der Präformationstheorie. Einen weiteren Vertreter findet die Epigenesislehre in F. Blumenbach. Kant überträgt den Begriff in die Philosophie. Nachfolgend die Neo-Epigenesis bei W. Roux. E. Brugger spricht im Zusamnhang mit Epigenesis von Neuevolution. Jüngster Literaturhinweis 1964.|
